The former Chelsea legend and one of the finest imports the EPL has ever seen is set to make his mark as West Ham manager. His position as assistant coach for Italy’s U-21 side should be helpful as he coaches a very young Hammers side. West Ham should expect the same exciting type of football that Zola was known for in his playing days with the Blues. And as with most former players that have turned managers, this style & philosophy should carry over as they turn to their post.

Zola told the Daily Mail: “I only know one way to play: on the floor, attacking football, the way things should be done. I want to excite people, that is why we play isn’t it?”

Zola will turn to England youngsters, Scott Parker, Matthew Upson, Matthew Etherington, Mark Noble, Tony Stokes & Fred Sears as possible players to build around. Zola will be a good symbol for the EPL, a figure who will place a greater emphasis on building around domestic youth players and bringing back West Ham’s reputation as the breeding ground for fresh talent.

David Di Michele, who arrived on loan from Torino and fellow countryman of Zola may become an important player for the new Italian manager. A partnership between Di Michele & Dean Ashton has the potential to be a strong partnership up front, while Craig Bellamy waits along the wing. But Zola will have a lot of work to do. West Ham is one of the youngest sides in the EPL and is known for their inconsistency both at home and away.
