The League has already increased the number of substitutes a team is allowed to have from five to seven before the start of this season and there could be another change soon to come. With FIFA stepping up to introduce new requirements to benefit home-grown players, the Premier League is introducing a new bench rule that could further move up this process.
The League has suggested that every team in the EPL must have two academy graduates in their bench for all games – a reason why they increased the number of allowed substitutes from five to seven. And with teams having one or two academy graduates already playing in their XI, it is still required for these teams to have the two required graduates on their bench.
