Ricardo Carvalho is set to be sidelined for at least a month after suffering a strained MCL against Manchester United. Carvalho has been the iron man at central defense for Chelsea since his arrival from FC Porto in 2004 (£19.8 million). The Portuguese centerhalf will miss a Carling Cup match against Portsmouth on Wednesday night, as well as Stoke City on Saturday. But Chelsea will hope their key defender will be back before the end of October when Chelsea host Liverpool on the 26th.

Ricardo Carvalho’s fellow countryman, Deco, will also miss at least a couple of weeks after suffering a tear in his upper thigh muscle. Deco suffered the injury during the warm-ups prior to the kick-off against Manchester United on Sunday.
