feelgood fantasy picks: week 7

We visit Stamford Bridge in (Southwest) London for Week 7 with the Villans hoping to end Chelsea’s long home unbeaten record that spans four years. And if there is a team that could beat Chelsea at home, it is the men from Villa Park. Chelsea are missing depth up front, following another injury setback from Didier Drogba during the team’s midweek Champions League draw to CFR Cluj. Meanwhile, both Gabriel Agbonlahor & John Carew have been declared fit to face the Blues.

Edwin van der Sar is our choice as goalkeeper this weekend, as United look to shut down Paul Ince’s Blackburn side & get their second consecutive win this season. His teammate, Nemanja Vidić also makes our list as one of the central defenders.

Samba heads it in against Newcastle for a 2-1 win

Christopher Samba will look to enforce himself against United. The big Congolese defender was impressive against Newcastle last week and is a handful to defend against in set-pieces. Glen Johnson & Gareth Bale complete our back-four for this week. Two fullbacks, who are still looking to ignite for their teams this season.

Gerrard was Mr. 100 vs PSV during midweek

Two Liverpool players lead our midfield this week. Steven Gerrard scored his 100th goal for his club against PSV Eindhoven in midweek and will look to add more against Manchester City. And with the Reds on the edge of hitting their 1000th EPL goal (currently 999 goals), many will look to the Kop skipper to have that honor.

Javier Mascherano was rested this week and should be fit to play against Manchester City after missing the last three games. Geovanni, the former Manchester City man will look to sink an already sinking Tottenham ship after last week’s canonball shot against Arsenal. Antonio Valencia completes our midfield for this week.

Owen will look to put a smile on Toon supporters

If Tottenham are close to being sunk, then Newcastle might just as well be a part of that wreckage. Everton will be desperate to get back in the winning column after their defeat in the Merseyside derby. Michael Owen and his 3 goals this season have all come in vain, but the English marksman will do all he can to be Toon’s saviour & hopefully give his supporters a victory against the Toffees. Jermaine Defoe is having a superb season and should continue his hot streak against Stoke on Sunday.

All Quiet In The Northern Front

Four games in, roughly £70 million spent (€88 million) so far this season and currently last in the EPL standings with only one point. Juande Ramos finds himself in the hot seat, as Tottenham is beginning to show their inexperience in a more consistent level, losing again today 2-1 to Aston Villa. It’s beginning to look like it was all just hype leading up to the new season for Spurs after a spending spree in the transfer market.

Supporters find themselves watching a blunt team without any real ambition. While Spurs stars, David Bentley & Jermaine Jenas are now starting in the bench because of weak performances. But Juande Ramos will need to find a solution quickly if he wants to maintain his managerial position. The veteran stars will need to pick it up, but even this might not even be enough to save the Spanish manager.
